ABOUT THE BOOK

Jesus gave a simple commandment: “What I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.” He asked, “Could you not watch with me one hour?” The Eye Single is about obeying His instruction and following His example. It is life in the Spirit, watching for and with Jesus, "the light of life." In watchings, prophets saw visions, Paul received revelation, and Jesus communed with our Father.

Physically, watching is being alert, attentive and seeing with no thought and no desire, just awareness. Spiritually, it is much more. Watching is knowledge of God:

Be still, and know that I am God.”

You come alive in the Spirit when you watch. You become as He is—wholly aware, for “the eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” You see Jesus, you see God. For Jesus is God, and “God is light.” “If therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.”

Believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light.”

Watching is Jesus’ way, which is the only way, to union with God. His way transcends all others: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Watch to see Jesus. He is here—now. He came back the moment He left. When He ascended into Spirit, He returned in the Spirit. His presence remains. Watch with Jesus. Watch, and experience the “peace of God, which passeth all understanding.” Unbound, as “an heir of God through Christ,” you have everything to gain. Watch to “see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.”

AUTHOR John Lundell lives in Minnesota, and is retired from the DM&IR Railway after “pulling throttle” for thirty years. Along the way, he graduated from the University of Minnesota Duluth, attended seminary, and raised nine wonderful children.

It was while serving as a military policeman in Saigon during the Vietnam War that John's Christian beliefs were reawakened. The intensity of life in a war zone caused him to realize that the most important thing in life was knowledge of God; the most important experience, experience of God; and the greatest necessity—His grace.

John's quest for a better way to live began in earnest on his return to the USA. He studied Scripture and read voraciously—from Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite to Meister Eckhart and Carl Jung; the Bhagavad Gita, the Tao Te Ching, The Secret of the Golden Flower and others. He undertook an intense regimen of Bible study and prayer and found God in the face of His Son—Jesus Christ. His thirst for Jesus consumed him, and answers came.

The Spirit led John, sometimes through dream and vision, to the Biblical exemplars of watching. For the way to know and experience God is hidden in plain sight. Jesus stated it clearly in Mark 13:37: “What I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.” The idea for a book on Jesus’ neglected commandment began to formulate. The result was The Eye Single, a testimony to the life-changing power of watching—watching for and with Jesus. The grace of stillness in the presence of God.

"Go into your room and shut the door

and pray to your Father who is in secret.

And your Father who sees in secret will reward you."
